Photographs of 69 manuscripts from the collection of Museum Huis van het boek in The Hague, 52 books from Tresoar (the treasury for the history of Fryslân) in Leeuwarden and 59 books from the Athenaeum Library in Deventer have been published in our eCodicesNL Database. They are presented in a search and browse interface, in which it is possible to filter using certain information fields: e.g. authors, titles, place of origin or dating of the object. In order to select our manuscripts, we used the following criteria:
- ca 70 manuscripts (mostly complete manuscripts, but also some fragments) from each of the three collections;
- we chose manuscripts that gave a good impression of the nature and diversity of the collection, in terms of age, content and character;
- we chose manuscripts that were suitable to be photographed on the Traveller’s Conservation Copy Stand, that is, they were not too large, too fragile or too tightly bound.
For the manuscript descriptions, we primarily used the data already curated in the Database of Medieval Manuscripts in Dutch Collections. These data were processed into TEI-XML P5 files that are in compliance with the international standard for manuscript descriptions.
